Taxi driver medical in Brentwood

Which doctor Brentwood will accept, how often you have to repeat it and which form they want. Councils disagree with each other on every one of those, so this is Brentwood’s answer and nobody else’s.

Who can carry it out

Only a provider the council names

The council will not accept a certificate from a doctor of your choosing. Use the provider they name, or you will have paid for a medical twice.

What Brentwood requires

“Brentwood Borough Council will apply the DVLA Group 2 medical standard required for an entitlement to drive lorries (category C) and for buses (category D) for all licensed drivers”
How often: Group 2 assessment on initial application. After that it is only a medical DECLARATION at each renewal until age 45, when a full assessment is needed again; then every 5 years from 45 to 65; annually from 65. More often for drivers with notified medical disorders
Form: Both forms are needed: the DVLA D4 Medical Examiner's Report AND the council's own Group 2 medical report / fitness-to-drive form (brentwood.gov.uk/media/933), which says on its face 'To be completed alongside the Government D4 Medical questionnaire'
Possible exemption: not published. The policy applies the Group 2 standard to all licensed drivers and offers no exemption for HGV/PSV/PCV holders. (Section 6.9 'Medical Exemption Certificates' is the Equality Act wheelchair/assistance-dog exemption and in fact reinforces the medical requirement: 'All drivers MUST meet DVLA group 2 medical standards'. The PCV/PSV passages at 7.5.14 are about using coach drivers for private hire bookings.)
Worth double-checking: You cannot use just any doctor. Appendix B limits it to: your own registered GP surgery, Cotswold Medicals, Just Health, D4Drivers, or - only where none of those is available - any provider with the WRITTEN consent of the Licensing Manager.
