Taxi driver medical in Barnsley

Which doctor Barnsley will accept, how often you have to repeat it and which form they want. Councils disagree with each other on every one of those, so this is Barnsley’s answer and nobody else’s.

What Barnsley requires

• “Print our medical examination report and have this completed and signed by a doctor. The report includes a vision assessment which can be completed by either a doctor or optician. You may have to pay a fee to your doctor and/or optician to carry out your medical assessment”
• How long it lasts: 3 months - 'we only accept DBS check certificates, medical reports and character references dated within three months of the day you submit your online application', and 'Your completed application should be submitted within 3 months of the date your medical form was signed by the doctor.' Measured from the signing/report date to the date the application is SUBMITTED, not the date of grant
• How often: All new applicants, then at age 45, then every five years until 60, then annually. Web page states the same as 'every five years' from 45 to 59 and 'every 12 months' from 60
• Form: Council's own 14-page 'Medical Examination Report' (Part 1 questionnaire by the applicant, Part 2a visual assessment, Part 2b medical assessment). Not the DVLA D4. Must be signed, dated, marked FIT/UNFIT and practice-stamped on page 13
• Possible exemption: YES, and stated three separate ways. Form: 'Holders of HGV and PSV licences will be exempt from completion of this form on production of the appropriate licence.' Policy driver conditions: 'Holders of HGV or PSV drivers' licences are not required to submit a medical certificate but will be required to produce such licence for inspection'. Renewal page offers it as one of two ways to prove medical clearance
