Taxi driver medical in Angus

Which doctor Angus will accept, how often you have to repeat it and which form they want. Councils disagree with each other on every one of those, so this is Angus’s answer and nobody else’s.

What Angus requires

• “The Medical Assessment Form must be completed and submitted along with the application or we will not be able to accept the application for processing”
• How often: Every new taxi/private hire driver must submit a completed Medical Assessment Form with the first application, whatever their age. After that the trigger is age, not a fixed licence cycle: a medical certificate is required on the first grant or renewal after attaining age 45, then every 6 years, until 65; from 65 a medical certificate is required annually and the licence itself becomes a one-year licence. Under-45 renewals need no medical. Note the web page phrases the 45+ rule as 'on first renewal and thereafter every six years' while the licence conditions phrase it as 'on the first grant or renewal of his/her licence after attaining the age of 45' - the conditions are the binding version
• Form: The council's own 'Medical Assessment for Taxi or Private Hire Car Drivers Applicants' is MANDATORY and is a full DVLA-D4-style examination report (vision, nervous system, diabetes, psychiatric, cardiac sections 5A-5G, general). Only the front declaration page goes to the council - 'ONLY THIS PAGE IS TO BE RETURNED TO ANGUS COUNCIL' - and the detailed report is 'TO BE RETAINED BY EXAMINING DOCTOR OR APPLICANT'. Unusually, the form carries a separate Vision Assessment page to be signed by an OPTICIAN, to be used 'ONLY TO BE COMPLETED IF DOCTOR HAS NOT CONDUCTED A VISION TEST' - so the eyesight element can be split off to an optician
• Possible exemption: Not published. No HGV/PSV/PCV or DVLA Group 2 licence exemption anywhere in the web page, guidance notes, application form, medical form or driver conditions. Group 2 is referenced purely as the standard the examining doctor must assess against. Every new driver produces the form regardless of vocational entitlement
