Taxi driver medical in Aberdeen

Which doctor Aberdeen will accept, how often you have to repeat it and which form they want. Councils disagree with each other on every one of those, so this is Aberdeen’s answer and nobody else’s.

What Aberdeen requires

• “PLEASE NOTE, THE COUNCIL HAS ADOPTED DVLA GROUP 2 STANDARDS OF MEDICAL FITNESS AS THE APPROPRIATE STANDARDS FOR LICENSED DRIVERS AND YOU MAY BE REQUIRED TO PASS A MEDICAL EXAMINATION TO DETERMINE IF YOU MEET THESE STANDARDS”
• How often: No routine medical is required at first application or at renewal for drivers under 65. A medical examination is triggered only where (a) the applicant declares an illness or medical condition on Section 4 of the application form, or (b) the Council otherwise has a concern about fitness to drive; the applicant is then referred to the Council's Occupational Health advisor. Licence holders over 65 are required to undergo annual medicals to Group 2 standards. Further assessment may also be required during the currency of the licence
• Form: No council medical form is published and no D4 is demanded. The only medical paperwork at application is the self-declaration at Section 4 'FITNESS TO DRIVE' of the Taxi and Private Hire Car Driver Licence Application ('Are you subject to any illness or medical condition YES NO'). Any actual examination is carried out by the Council's Occupational Health advisor, not on a driver-supplied certificate
• Possible exemption: Not published. No HGV/PSV/PCV or DVLA Group 2 licence exemption is stated. Group 2 is referenced only as the standard of fitness the Council has adopted. In practice under-65s with nothing to declare need no medical at all, which makes an exemption clause unnecessary
• Their own sources disagree on this. SCOTLAND - Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982. This is a genuine outlier: Aberdeen City does NOT require a routine Group 2 medical certificate from applicants at all. It adopts the Group 2 STANDARD but tests it by self-declaration, referring the driver to the council's own Occu Ring them before you book anything.
