Taxi driver medical in Southend-on-Sea

What Southend-on-Sea requires

“Applicants for Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Vehicle Drivers Licence will be required to undergo a Medical Examination with their own Doctor prior to a Topographical Test and a Dr iving Test with a member of the Technical & Environmental Services staff”
How long it lasts: 28 days - unusually tight. "The applicant must ensure the Council receives the signed and completed medical certificate within 28 days of it having been completed." Dated to receipt by the council, not to grant
How often: At first application, then from 45 every 5 years, and from 65 annually. The council can also demand a further medical at any time if concerns arise
Form: The council's own "Group II medical form", issued with the application pack. Not the DVLA D4
Possible exemption: YES, but CONDITIONAL and time-limited - holders of a current PSV, HGV or LGV licence are excused a further medical only if they can "produce proof of a current medical examination of less than 12 months old", and only "until such time as it may in the normal course of events be required". So an HGV licence on its own is not enough; the driver needs a vocational medical done within the last year
