Taxi driver medical in Powys

Which doctor Powys will accept, how often you have to repeat it and which form they want. Councils disagree with each other on every one of those, so this is Powys’s answer and nobody else’s.

Who can carry it out

Any registered doctor with your records

You are not tied to your own surgery, which usually means a shorter wait and a lower fee. The condition is the records: the doctor must have seen your full history, not just examined you on the day.

What Powys requires

“There is an exemption for drivers who can demonstrate that they hold a current valid PCV or LGV category on their driver licence (these drivers have already demonstrated Group 2 standard)”
How long it lasts: 4 months from the date the medical practitioner examined you and signed the certificate, provided your health has not changed since
How often: On initial application. Every 6 years for licensed drivers over 45 (not over 65), then annually from 65. The council can ask for one at any time if something calls your fitness to drive into question. Powys publish no frequency of their own - this is the Welsh Government national form they route you to
Form: The Welsh Government national 'Medical report for taxi or private hire vehicle drivers licence' form (DOCX, last updated 8 December 2025), not the DVLA D4 and not a Powys-drafted form. The form has a placeholder '[insert local authority name]' for the council to fill in
Possible exemption: YES - 'There is an exemption for drivers who can demonstrate that they hold a current valid PCV or LGV category on their driver licence (these drivers have already demonstrated Group 2 standard)'. Note this is worded as PCV/LGV entitlement on the driving licence, not as a separate medical certificate
