Taxi driver medical in North Somerset

Which doctor North Somerset will accept, how often you have to repeat it and which form they want. Councils disagree with each other on every one of those, so this is North Somerset’s answer and nobody else’s.

Who can carry it out

Any GMC-registered doctor

The most relaxed category there is. Any doctor on the GMC register can sign it, so a private medical centre is generally faster and cheaper than waiting for a GP appointment.

What North Somerset requires

“Anyone with a current LGV/PSV Licence, and who has undergone a Group 2 medical examination is not required to take a further medical provided a copy of the medical examination can be produced”
How long it lasts: Medical form must be dated within 3 months of application. Runs to the APPLICATION, not to grant
How often: First grant, then at ages 45, 50, 55, 60 and 65 (guidance lists the intervals as '45 / 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 years of age'), and yearly from 65 and older. No upper age limit on licences
Form: Council's own template, titled 'D4 medical examination form for taxi and private hire driver applicants' – downloadable and printed for use by the GP
Possible exemption: YES – EXPLICIT. A current LGV/PSV licence holder who has undergone a Group 2 medical examination is not required to take a further medical, provided a copy of the medical examination can be produced
