Taxi driver medical in Adur

Which doctor Adur will accept, how often you have to repeat it and which form they want. Councils disagree with each other on every one of those, so this is Adur’s answer and nobody else’s.

Who can carry it out

Your own GP only

Only the practice you are registered with can complete this one. You cannot shop around for a cheaper medical, and if your practice is slow to offer appointments that is the timetable you are stuck with, so book early.

What Adur requires

“A request form for a medical examination, which may be presented to the applicant’s GP, can be obtained from the Council”
How often: On initial application, then every 5 years from age 45 until age 65, then annually after 65. Between 21 (or whenever first licensed) and 45 no repeat medical is stated. The Council may require more frequent checks if a medical practitioner says it is necessary, and drivers must self-report any deterioration in health
Form: The Council's own prescribed Medical Form is MANDATORY and is the strictest wording in this batch: 'The Council will only accept a medical certificate produced on the Council's prescribed form. No other form of certificate will be accepted.' A D4 or a private provider's own certificate will not do. The form is not published for download - it is issued with the application pack ('The Medical Form will be provided at time of application'), so a driver cannot take one to a medical appointment before applying
Possible exemption: Not published. No HGV/PSV/PCV or DVLA Group 2 licence exemption exists. The handbook's reference to 'PSV DVLA Group 2 specification' is describing the STANDARD the examination is carried out to, not exempting PSV holders - and it is contradicted anyway by the absolute 'No other form of certificate will be accepted'
