Taxi driver medical in Guildford

Which doctor Guildford will accept, how often you have to repeat it and which form they want. Councils disagree with each other on every one of those, so this is Guildford’s answer and nobody else’s.

What Guildford requires

• “5.6 Medical Assessment: The Council recognises that licensed drivers should be subject to more stringent medical standards than those applicable to normal car drivers because they carry members of the public who have expectations of a safe journey”
• How long it lasts: 3 months, measured to the application date - 'medical form, completed by the applicant's registered doctor less than 3 months before application'
• How often: first application, then every 5 years thereafter until age 65, then annually. Note this is a rolling 5-year clock from the first medical, NOT fixed age bands like 45/50/55
• Form: council's own (a medical examination form supplied by the Council, titled 'DVLA Group 2 Medical Form GBC')
• Possible exemption: PSV/LGV ACCEPTED on first application - 'Holders of Public Service Vehicle (PSV) and / or Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) Licences, where the holder is able to produce proof of current medical examination less than 3 months old, will not be required to undergo a medical examination on first application.' Note it is worded as LGV rather than HGV, and it only removes the FIRST medical, not later ones
