Taxi driver medical in Dumfries and Galloway

Which doctor Dumfries and Galloway will accept, how often you have to repeat it and which form they want. Councils disagree with each other on every one of those, so this is Dumfries and Galloway’s answer and nobody else’s.

You do not arrange this with your GP at all. The council's own doctors carry out the examination, so the appointment comes through them and a medical you have already paid a GP for will not be accepted.

What Dumfries and Galloway requires

“Where the Council has a concern regarding an applicant’s fitness to drive, the applicant will be requested to supply consent to the Council approaching their GP/Consultant etc to confirm whether they consider you fit to drive a taxi or private hire vehicle”
How often: No routine medical. A medical examination happens only if the licensing authority asks for one, which it may do 'at any time', or if the Council has a concern about your fitness to drive, in which case it asks your consent to approach your own GP or consultant instead

Taken from Taxi and Private Hire Driver Licence Application Form (24.03.26) - Section 4 'Fitness to Drive' self-declaration, and Guidance Notes Section B 'Fitness to Drive' which sets the Group 1 standard.
