Taxi driver medical in Derby

Which doctor Derby will accept, how often you have to repeat it and which form they want. Councils disagree with each other on every one of those, so this is Derby’s answer and nobody else’s.

Who can carry it out

Your own GP, or a doctor with your records

Your own practice is the straightforward route, but another doctor can do it if they have had full access to your medical history. Private clinics that request your records can qualify. One that examines you without them cannot.

What Derby requires

“20 Medical Fitness. The driver shall: a upon application, be medically examined by a registered general practitioner at the practice at which they are registered and be certified to meet the requirements of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency Group 2 medical for Vocational Drivers and fit to perform the duties of a Hackney Carriage driver”
How long it lasts: less than 12 weeks (approx 3 months) - 'a Certificate of Fitness to Drive (less than 12 weeks old)' both on first application and at each renewal
How often: On first application (all ages). Then aged under 70: every 3 years. Aged over 70: annually. Additional examinations at more frequent intervals if a GP recommends it or if the Licensing Authority requests it after a complaint. Note Derby is one of the councils that starts age-triggered annual medicals at 70, not 65
