Taxi driver medical in East Devon

Which doctor East Devon will accept, how often you have to repeat it and which form they want. Councils disagree with each other on every one of those, so this is East Devon’s answer and nobody else’s.

Who can carry it out

Any registered doctor with your records

You are not tied to your own surgery, which usually means a shorter wait and a lower fee. The condition is the records: the doctor must have seen your full history, not just examined you on the day.

What East Devon requires

“Applicants for the grant of a hackney carriage or private hire driver's licence will be required to produce a medical signed by a registered medical practitioner who has access to his/her medical history, certifying that the applicant is physically fit to Group 2 medical standards for vocational drivers' licences”
How long it lasts: the examination must have been carried out within 3 months of the application being received; a PSV/HGV medical relied on under the exemption must be no more than 6 months old
How often: on first grant, then a further certificate on reaching 45; from 45 every 5 years until the first licence renewal anniversary after the 65th birthday or the 66th birthday, whichever comes first, and annually at renewal thereafter
Form: the East Devon District Council Medical Report form, an A4 double-sided booklet sent on request to new applicants
Possible exemption: holders of a current PSV and/or HGV licence who can provide proof of a current recent medical examination (within 6 months) taken to support that licence will not be required to undergo further medical examinations
